Carnival – we all want to run away and join the circus. The rituals, music, and food associated with celebrations around the world and bear similarities in the excess.
Aren’t our dreams like a circus? It’s just about everything being upside down. An example of carnival is when you are a morally principled person in a dream, then you really are not.

The dream is always not what it seems is at the heart of the Freudian hermeneutic. For Frye, this is the same argument about literature. Both are working backwards from the product to the origins. P. 176 of Freud

Autumn and Hillman’s idea of Dream-Work (the work that a dream does):
P 124 – channeling Freud
Bricoleur – has the whole composition in view and takes pre-made objects and fits them into the composition. Dream work should go this way: taking the pieces and putting it into the dream.
P 128 “The imagination at night takes events out of life, and the bricoleur in the service of the death instinct scavenges and forages for day residues, removing more and more empirical trash of the personal world out of life and into psyche for the sake of its love.”

What if someone else other than Freud “peynted the leon”? say, a woman? Would half the population struggle with Uterus Envy?

Chaos in dreams should not be unraveled. The depth of the dream should be kept intact. It’s the psychology of craft and not of growth.

Freud Dream-Work:
Condensation – the dream is a unit that is a condensing of a larger whole. We combine multiple people and images into one thing. All of these different parts have different values to the dream and result in varying interpretations.
